As many of you may know, Matt got his dream job. It is very exciting and we are looking forward to a steady paycheck after all these years of schooling and struggle. (for a brief introduction to our family see last paragraph)
The challenge is, his job is 380 MILES away and our finances ran out of even fumes months ago. We've been getting by through the generosity and assistance of family and church. While Matt was able to secure a place to stay for a few weeks with a friend we are eager to get all of us out there. With my disability, being alone, especially at night, is a bit of a stress and a struggle. Matt only gets paid once a month after he starts his job (02/13/15) so the funds to move are going to be slow in coming.
I
got the idea of doing a Go Fund Me account to see if we could get help
to get us out there and into an apartment. Anyone who knows me knows
that asking for help when we COULD do it another way is not my style. We
usually prefer to make it work on our own but the kids and I are REALLY
attached to Daddy and if there is ANY chance to shorten that wait time I
will try it. Than why is this not a Go Fund Me account? Well, because
there are fees attached to those accounts. 8% of every donation goes to
the website. It is a fair deal considering they are offering a service
and the payment method costs them money but I have a hard time with
seeing others hard earned money go to support a website if its
avoidable. So here I am dear friends, family, friends of family, family of friends and kind internet individuals I have yet to meet, asking for help.
Even $20 each adds up with just a handful of people.
How to donate? I know paypal will allow payments safely and securely and with no fee for a personal payment between paypal or bank accounts and the credit card fee is less than the go fund me fees. My paypal email is millicanjennifer@yahoo.com. Just click the SEND link at the top of the paypal webpage: https://www.paypal.com/home. If you would like to help but are not comfortable with paypal feel free to let me know what would work for you by sending me a FB message, email, or call/text 503-349-2297
We would also be grateful for a personal loan. Something our credit rating, due to these long years in school, wont allow through official channels.
Our moving needs are estimated at $3000
Here is what we are thinking:
$2000 First month and deposit for an apartment
$400 U-haul truck and trailer
$400 Fix Van so it will make the drive. We need a tune up on the wheelchair van. its doing a concerning lug lug thing that replacing spark plugs and fuel filter didn't completely fix. Unfortunately our 1994 vehicle doesn't have the electronic diagnostic so even just a look to see the issue will cost labor hours. We've been quoted $100-$200 to problem solve. The repair is, our guess, simple so probably $100-200 for that with the labor as hubby wont be here to do it.
$200 Gas. Ya, our accessible van gets like 10 miles to the gallon. Good thing gas has gone down!
While we would very much appreciate help we are also very aware of the financial struggles MOST of us deal with on a daily basis and understand that even $10-20 is sometimes just not in the budget. We have been there. We ARE there. Please feel free to at least share for us. Thank you for taking the time to read this and pass it on.
With Love and Gratitude,
The Millican Family
For those who dont know us or not all that well:
Matt and I have been married for nearly 11 years. We met on a blind date and were married 6 months after meeting. We have three children. Matthew II is 10, Rachel-Abigail is 8 and our surprise babe Mason is 3. I was diagnosed with a rare form of Muscular Dystrophy in 2005 just 2yrs into our Marriage and 8 months after our first child was born. Ive been using a power wheelchair since 2008. This challenging issue caused us to rethink our future and encouraged Matt to go back to school and get his degree. He chose psychology because as a military police officer in the Navy he often considered how the calls he responded to could be prevented before there was a need for police intervention. He graduated with his Masters in Psychology this August. He has had a lot on his plate caring for his wife and children, going to school and now off to work. We are a homeschooling family as well and enjoy taking day trips to museums and places of interest every chance we get. Our life is never boring and we do our best to make the most out of it, stresses and challenges and all.
